This chapter discusses the problem of the application in the humanities and the ethical norms because both rely on the practice, both constitute our life-world. The object of study in the humanities is thus that to which we belong: the humanist tradition, which is made evident in a variety of differences and in a pluralism of life forms and world views. As rational beings we decide our actions in a context of the lifeworld, a cultural tradition. This is achieved in the process of formation (Bildung). Human subjects will only be dignified by education, what they should be. The intention of this chapter is to show the cultural basis of our ethical reasoning and our distinction between good and evil, what Hegel called objective spirit, res. 'second natur".
