Abstract

We must admit that when we were asked to write something about peace and sexuality we were surprised. We never thought of these two concepts and human experiences together. Moreover, as Drachma LGBT (Drachma LGBT is a Maltese association of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Christians) we are not very familiar with Don Milani. However, from the little we know of him, we can say that what we are doing may, in some ways, remind some of his philosophy, way of life and methodology. As LGBT people, we often find ourselves being the objects of someone else's reflections, theologies, judgments, and statements. Some of these are well thought theories. Others are terrible. Many fail to reflect our reality. In a manner that is reminiscent of Milani and his community, at Drachma we practice the bottom-up approach, we play with democracy and liberation. We do not reject tradition or conservative teachings either. But we do not allow these to become cages. We use them as platforms that help us grow in love and service. We also struggle to find our own voices; sexual, spiritual, theological, and biblical. In the light of this, our attempt to write this chapter is an experiment; a way of being together and write. Fra Gwann Xerri taught us much about this way of being. This exercise turned out to be a creative process, which further stimulated our thoughts and introduced us to new concepts.
