Re-reading Rousseau in the 20th Century

The Reception by Franz L. Neumann, Jacob L. Talmon and Ernst Fraenkel

Alfons Söllner

pp. 211-227

Abstract

"Rousseau in Germany" – this is much more than an unidentified topic within the history of political ideas. However, it is notable that the appropriate research mostly focused on the time around 1800, the era of romanticism and German idealism, when reading Rousseau was probably more popular in Germany than in any other European country. In comparison, later periods were rather neglected so far.
