Lukács' dialectic man

charismatic self-perception of anomic supermen

Victor Zitta

pp. 216-228

Abstract

This chapter aims to throw light upon a Marxist view which — though touched upon — has rarely been explicated by Marxists, except to a certain extent by Lukács. It is a view which is so absurd as I see it that I suspect it is the reason why Marxists have recoiled from espousing or interpreting it more frequently or extensively. This rarely explicated view, I suggest, places the entire Marxist outlook into a slightly different perspective. As lights can help accentuate the features of a profile on a piece of sculpture, so this view — brought to light — helps to accentuate features in the Marxist intellectual profile which should not be left dormant if a better understanding of the ideology is the purpose of scholarship.
