Refutation of the Greek conception of number

pp. 25-39

Abstract

Is there in the Arabic tradition room for a conception of the natural numbers that differs, say, from the one of the Greek legacy? And if so, what could it be? What is little known is that questions about the foundations of mathematics which have generated so many lively discussions in the development of contemporary mathematics and logic have equally been a subject of research by the ancients who acknowledged it both as important and difficult.
