The evolution of language

Philip Lieberman

pp. 47-64

Abstract

Language is the window into the mind. It allows for functional interaction between the organism and its environment. This chapter views language from an evolutionary perspective tracing the hypothesized evolution of language beginning with early hominims and exploring the explosion of language in the human species over the past 200,000 years.
