The nuclear powers are forfeiting their claim to civil obedience

Herbert Spiegelberg

pp. 289-292

Abstract

What can philosophers as philosophers contribute to the struggle against the specter of a nuclear holocaust? Their distinctive concern is clearly not only that of the pioneering scientists, physicians and lawyers for social responsibility but also that for humans as citizens of the world as a whole. And their primary mission is that of critical examination in the spirit of Socrates of all the claims made by them and on them.
