A defense of human equality

Herbert Spiegelberg

pp. 131-153

Abstract

"Equality of all men is the biggest lie ever told". Thus Nietzsche summed up his great indictment of the 'self-evident truth that all men are created equal".80 To him the idea of human equality was nothing but the expression of the 'slave's revolt in morals". Its first manifestation was the "Christian dynamite"81 of the idea of human equality before God. Its final outcome is modern secular democracy.
