Abstract

There is without doubt some justice in the counter-arguments. Lacan has been accused of undue systematicity and a nostalgia for the truth of full speech. Stephen Heath might have difficulty in integrating the unconscious fully into his account of ideology's production of an imaginary position for the subject. But this need not be the end of the story.
