Abstract

It is highly likely that the broad and charged title of this book, Re(con)figuring Psychoanalysis: Critical Juxtapositions of the Philosophical, the Sociohistorical and the Political, will lead your imagination to an infinite intellectual space that its content certainly is not able to explore, to visit or even to articulate, just as it presents me with ample possibilities at the moment, while I search for an opening line. If I have not found one and have not begun already, I think, I am about to opt for a collage of some (motion) pictures of humanity in its current appearances in the real world, which one can easily gather by simply turning to everyday life, to multivariant channels of mass media and to social networks worldwide. On the one hand, we are faced with wars and the industrialization of war; brutal killings, terrorism, violence against "identified' groups based on their gender, age, race, religion, nation, ethnicity and various other differences/preferences; extreme poverty and the deep gap between the rich and the poor; the destruction of nature, global warming and other environmental issues, including nuclear threat; serious hunger, hygiene and epidemic health problems; new forms of imperialism and global capitalism; economic crisis and unemployment; population growth, unregulated urbanization and migration; the exploitation of children and the disabled; unequal access to literacy, to education, to knowledge and to other cultural sources; exclusion and all sorts of oppression and discrimination against the "different'; distrust in modern medicine; dissolution of familial/social relations and psychological isolation; anxieties about loss of meaning and human(ist) values concerning love, intimacy, privacy, security, honesty, loyalty, responsibility and morality; social injustice and corruption; fundamental religious and neo-fascist movements; and so on.
