Abstract

For the trouble you may have with what follows now, I must apologize, and I must not. I must — and I do! — for that part of the trouble which is due to my not having achieved greater clarity and distinctness. But for the more important part I cannot, for its source is the very nature of this undertaking, of this "human effort,' as James Agee would say.
