The justification of knowledge and the knowledge of ends

Nathan Rotenstreich

pp. 57-75

Abstract

Descartes' relationship to philosophical tradition, including the tradition that defined the essence of philosophy, was explicit, at least with respect to the views concerning the essence of philosophy in the thought of the Middle Ages. Hence his conception of philosophy is also formulated from the standpoint of its relation to the systems of the Middle Ages.
