Comments on Otto on translation

Herbert E. Hendry

pp. 315-324

Abstract

Translation into logical notation is an art. According to Herbert Otto it can and should be a science. That is a major theme of his essay. It is not the principal one, but it is the one that I should like to focus my attention upon. Moreover, I want to restrict my attention to that part of the translation procedure that consists of what Otto refers to as paraphrase and transcription.
