Kant's Critique of Pure Reason closes with a chapter on "the History of Pure Reason," Die Geschichte der reinen Vernunft.¹ This is a very short text, four pages in all, which is introduced with the following words: "This title stands here only in order to indicate one remaining division of the system, which must be completed in the future."² Here we find, at the very least, the announcement of a connection between reason and history. To specify this connection completely, however, is a task that Kant bequeaths to posterity.
