Abstract

Patrick Suppes is unanimously recognized as one of the leading figures in the scenario of contemporary philosophy of science. The field owns him an enormous debt in a number of respects, given his essential contributions on an extremely wide range of issues in many decades, ever since his first pivotal writings back in the Sixties. Roberta Ferrario and Viola Schiaffonati’s volume guides the reader through Suppes’ complex philosophical position with remarkable clarity and depth, highlighting from the very beginning how Suppes’ outstanding reflections have always been characterized by a strong interest for both formal methods andempirical practices. The continuous interaction of these two equally crucial horns in Suppes’ production is one of its distinctive marks, and is rightly taken as a fil rouge in the Authors’ reconstruction of his thought.
